Yard Work is Fun Work

House ownership involves many projects, both inside and out. During our three years owning a house together and growing our family, we have tried to incorporate the kids into most projects. Why not have a little fun while working together? During Memorial Day weekend, Steve undertook the task of installing a better drainage system for our sump pump. By doing the work himself, we saved $1500.

After we received the quote from the contractor, we had the following conversation:

Steve: "It wouldn't cost too much to buy the pipe at the hardware store."
Alina: "Yeah! We could do it ourselves!"
Steve: "Who's this WE??"
Alina: "I could help! Well, maybe?"

Normally Alina actually enjoys home improvement projects and yard work but this year, being pregnant has put a damper on some activities. Steve truly did this entire project on his own, in one day.

As the day progressed, Elliott and Rosemary became completely covered in mud! They loved every second of digging next to Daddy, finding worms, helping move the pvc pipe and learning how to spray the hose. Unfortunately we didn't take a photo of our mud-covered children but the memory will not be easy to forget.

By replacing the grass, we didn't have to put down any grass seed.

Below is our 'after' photo, about a month later. the water exits the drain and continues down our front yard, which slopes downward.
