When scheduling Gretchen's baptism, our church suggested Mother'sDay. What a perfect day to honor Gretchen and celebrate her baptism!
We asked our nanny and her husband to be Gretchen's godparents. They happily said "yes"!
We arrived at the church early and settled in to our reserved seats near the front. Alina found cheerful-looking folks to take video and snap photos. The lighting is a little funny in the church but the pictures came out great! Kudos to random churchgoers who take great photos.
Our Pastor said beautiful things about Gretchen, praying over her and blessing her. Gretchen didn't like the water part but Steve is an old pro after doing this two times already. He was prepared for the brief cries. There's something about baptisms and weddings that always bring tears to the eyes!
Our church has a fun tradition of playing a short slideshow of the baptized child on the big screen. Despite our church's large size, baptisms are cozy and intimate!
Our favorite newborn photo of Gretchen in the background as we all celebrate.
Next, our Pastor walks the baptized child around the church. Since Gretchen was a little clingy, we decided to walk her around ourselves while our Pastor remarked on Gretchen's place in our family. This gives the chance for everyone in the congregation to ooh and aah over the baptized child. Meanwhile, Rosemary and Elliott stood proudly on stage with our nanny and her husband. (Names withheld for confidentiality!)
We all posed after the service. Gretchen had to be bribed with Alina's phone.
We all headed home for cake after the service, spending the rest of Mother's Day together on a lovely sunny May day.
