We waited until the weekend of Dec 4 and 5 when Nana was visiting to bring out the ornaments. Nana and Alina applied extra strands of lights to the already-pre-lit tree. After the lights were in place, each child started hanging ornaments, one at a time.
Elliott clearly remembered decorating the tree from last year. In fact, he has constantly brought up his memories of Christmas from last year, which is heart-warming and fun! We are trying to make the holidays more about building positive family memories and family traditions vs. unwrapping gifts (but the gifts are fun, too!)
While decorating the tree, the kids were running back quickly to get a new ornament... almost like a race. Alina checked on the ornament placement to discover Rosemary had places all of her ornaments on one branch (in the back of the tree) and when she ran out of space, she began neatly stacking the others on the floor beneath 'her' branch. Ha ha! We helped Rosemary distribute her ornaments and recruited Steve to place ornaments on higher branches, too.
Nana had the idea of tying red ribbon to a few of our large Santa ornaments and hanging them on our newly-installed hooks on the living room wall. What a nice way to add an extra touch of 'holiday' to the room.
