Finally, Christmas Day Arrives

Santa was here! The kids started off Christmas Day looking at the doll house, sled and stocking stuffers brought by Santa. Elliott was particularly happy to see Santa ate the cookies and milk left out the night before.

Once Steve's wrist heals a little more, he will definitely take the kids sledding on our new, big sled.

After enjoying the gifts and stocking stuffers from Santa, we moved to the front room to begin opening all the wrapped gifts waiting under the tree. At our house, Santa leaves his gifts unwrapped by the fireplace.

The kids are pretty good about opening gifts one by one so that we can all look at and enjoy the new item.

We took a few nursing breaks, potty breaks and clean up breaks. Rosemary REALLY got in to opening her own gifts this year. Before age 2, our kids seem equally interested in the colorful wrapping paper as they are interested in the gifts!

After Gretchen woke up from her nap, she posed in front of her pile of gifts.

Of course Rosemary had to try and help Gretchen smile....

Both Alina's Mom and Steve's Mom and Dad gave us the same Night Before Christmas book. This version of the book allows the reader to record their voice reading each page and to 'lock' the recording. Both Rosemary and Elliott have enjoyed flipping through these books and listening to their grandparents read. Here is Rosemary, holding the book for Gretchen. This moment was adorable because Gretchen actually started giggling for the first time at Rosemary. That's when Alina grabbed the camera.

The kids spent the day playing with the new gifts. After naptime, we had a delicious early dinner. Steve cooked a turkey in the deep fryer which we enjoyed along with side dishes we picked up from the grocery store.

After doing a little more cooking at Thanksgiving, we decided to plate up the food nicely on the table but minimize cooking as much as possible on Christmas so we could simply enjoy a peaceful time as a family of 5.

Each year brings more and more joy and excitement at our house on Christmas morning!
