Halloween night, Alina and Elliott went up to the local Chevy dealership and bought a new (used) car for Steve. Shhh... it was a surprise! Steve had been searching for the perfect replacement for the Acura which was at the end of it's life, at least for our family.
On November 1st, Alina suggested going out to dinner to for hot dogs. Not the easiest thing to do on a weeknight but Steve went along with piling all 3 kids in the van and heading off. On the way to the restaurant, Alina suggested "why don't we just swing by the Chevy dealership and take a look at the blue Camaro we saw online". Steve was willing but when we spotted the car inside the showroom, Steve wanted to move on.
"No, no", said Alina, "Let's go inside and at least take a look".
"You go in" replied Steve, "I'll stay in the car with the kids".
"Let's all go!" cries Alina ask she opens the van door and unbuckles Gretchen and the big kids. We're on our way.
Miraculously, Elliott never breathes a word ... such as "we were just here LAST NIGHT and bought a car for you, Daddy!" Who says a 5 year old can't keep a secret??
After stepping inside, Rosemary immediately runs to the lovely, shining blue Camaro and starts touching it. "Stop!" says Steve, "Please don't touch that, it's not your car".
"YES IT IS!!!" says Alina as the sales person looks on. "It's YOUR CAR STEVE!"
After Steve got over the initial shock, he did shed a few tears, and then had a blast driving the car out of the showroom and around for some joy riding before coming home to bed.
Operation surprise Steve with a new car = accomplished!
