Eggs

On Saturday, EGGS were the #1 focus in our house! We started off the day heading across the street to a neighborhood Easter Egg hunt organized by our two neighbor girls who are about 10 and 12. Elliott participated along with five other toddlers from our street. It was everyone's First egg hunt.

At the beginning the kids were a little wary of each other and didn't really understand the concept of hunting eggs. Pretty soon the oldest one ran off and snatched up an egg. Ah hah! You could practically see the lightbulbs going off as each toddler spotted a splash of pink or blue or green among the bushes and flowerbeds and trotted off to investigate.

The girls had hid 16 eggs for each child. WOW! That's a lot! Elliott had a ball zoning in on each egg. "Look, Mommy, LOOK!" and then "I found it!" After the dust settled and the kids were all starting to peek into each others' bags one toddler managed to open one of the eggs. Up until this point, no one really understood c-a-n-d-y was inside the eggs. Another lightbulb went off and pretty soon all the toddlers were munching on chocolate while the parents visited and chatted.

Later, after naptime, we sat down together and dyed Easter Eggs at our house with Rosemary and Elliott. Alina went a little crazy this year, setting out five dozen eggs to boil and buying two egg dying kits, complete with stickers, wax crayons and plastic wraps. Elliott's favorite part was dropping the white eggs into the colored water and watching the splash as the egg plopped. He was able to use a spoon to pick up the eggs. Steve and Elliott worked as a team while Alina took lots of pictures. Rosemary enjoyed the whole scene from her highchair where she played with the egg cartons and the colored plastic eggs.

Looks like we'll be eating egg salad and deviled eggs for a few weeks. (Let us know if you'd like some!) The whole day was a blast! Who knew Easter could be so fun?
