At the beginning of ths Spring, we thought this summer would be filled with running, jumping, sliding and maybe swinging on our swing set. Yes... Elliott adores all of those activities. But this summer, his #1 favorite activity (thus far) is digging in the dirt!
"Worm, Mommy... WORM! LOOK!"
We spent a good amount of time sprucing up our yard over the weekend. Okay, okay, we'll be honest... we spent a good amount of time sprucing up two flowerbeds, which consitute maybe 10% of our yard but we have to start somewhere, right?? Elliott has long given up on picking up sticks. Now, he wants to be deep in the dirt, poking around for wiggly earthworms, spiders or potato bugs. Our dirt is home to loads and loads of earthworms. Nana from Ohio was visiting us this weekend and she took great joy in exclaiming happily over every bug and unique rock identified by Elliott!
"Nana, look! a spider! a spider! Where he going??"
"Look Nana!! a lady-buggy! look!!"
And of course, Alina's classic favorite:
"Mommy, I bring this stick inside"...
Rosemary doesn't like messy food so she didn't have much interest in the dirt. Instead, she spent all of her time climbing into our green wagon. And out. Then in again... then out. She'd cruise around the entire wagon... then climb in again. And out.
Meanwhile while the kids were occupied under the watchful eye of Nana, Steve and Alina toiled away, sorting out the weeds from the hostas, turning over the dirt and spreading mulch. Steve turned to Alina at Menard's and said "How much mulch do you think we should get?" Alina thought for minute and said "Whatever we can fit in the car!" After all, what could be more fun than spreading brown mulch on a sunny Sunday!??!!
