Memorial Day Flowers

For our Memorial Day weekend, two out of three days were beautiful with gorgeous sunshine and warm days! We took advantage of our time off from work and school to play with the kids, spend time with friends and keep up with yard work. Steve was able to see the new Terminator movie, Alina had a playdate with two friends (3 ladies, 5 kids!) and we all enjoyed a yummy Korean BBQ at our friends' home.

As part of the yard-improvement-project, Alina selected flowers for her three pots and hanging baskets. Our front yard is mainly shady with some sun. Last year, we only planted impatiens -- an easy shade flower. This year, we got adventurous! First the two "sun" pots (which may end up on the deck or in a sunny patch of the front yard). Notice how the colors coordinate? (That is not a coincidence!!!)

Then the shade pot (below) and hanging basket (top of post): Alina picked purple and orange as her color scheme this year. All the flowers purchased are either purple or orange. (Although in the flower world, purple is actually called 'blue' -- who knew??)

Although our town hosts a gigantic Memorial Day parade, reputably the largest in our state, we opted to stay home since poor Rosemary has had a rough couple of nights due to teething. She sorely needed her morning nap! Elliott has thankfully passed his "I hate the camera" stage and is now starting to ham it up when Alina starts snapping photos.

Our basement is a fun place for the kids to jump and run around. Elliott demonstrated his 'big jump' (as in "Look, Mommy! Watch THIS big jump!" about 80 times. Okay maybe 800 times...) He also demonstrated how he can slide down the slide on his back (he's actually laughing hysterically in this photo!)

Rosemary has been pretty fussy the last two days so no good pictures of her but we do have some video coming up.... stay tuned!
