Mother's Day 2009

This past weekend was Mother's Day! Steve and the kids surprised Alina with a lovely bouquet of flowers when she arrived downstairs. Plus three sweet cards: one from each kid/husband. We decided to go out to breakfast to celebrate; breakfast is the easiest meal to eat at a restaurant with our two small kids. The original plan was to eat at a cafe in our trendy suburban 'downtown' area, near the riverwalk and among the boutiques. However, after we mentioned going out for breakfast to Elliott he requested the "airplane pancake store".

We look at each other, both trying to translate our 2.5 year old's language.... the a-i-r-p-l-a-n-e.... pancake... store???? ???? ????? Ah hah! The diner at the local regional airport!

We rolled up to the diner around 8:30am, well before the crowds. Elliott ate an entire Mickey Mouse pancake while watching the airplanes take-off and land. Rosemary happily chowed through her food, too, while Steve and Alina could linger over coffee. The server gave Alina a lovely pink rose -- Happy Mother's Day!

Back at home, we trooped in the backyard for a Mother's Day photo shoot. We have two huge (overgown) bushes, teeming with purple flowers, in our backyard. The entire backyward smells like these purple flowers. Someday we'll get a shot of both kids looking and smiling happily but for now... this will have to do! Steve tried many antics including jumping off the Little Tykes slide and balancing the lens cap on his head.

Later, after naptime, we wrapped up our Mother's Day by eating cupcakes and homemade apple pie. "Mommy... birthday? Mommy.... birthday??" Elliott kept asking confusedly... but that didn't stop him from eating his cupcake.
Another lovely weekend! Hope everyone else enjoyed a great Mother's Day, too!
