This year will probably go down in our family memories as "The Year of the Mulch". Our whole yard needed mulch. Alina called around to try and find a good deal. More = cheaper. We ended up with 10 yards of mulch in our driveway.
10 Cubic Yards.
For days and days, Alina would arrive home from work, change clothes and start shoveling. Steve would join when he arrived home. We figured out snow shovels worked best. Thank goodness it never rained.
One wheelbarrow, ten cubic yards, one yard -- this was a TON of work. We ended up with about 2 yards left at the end, which we sold on Craig's List.
The kids had a wonderful time scaling the mulch mountain and sliding down. In sleds. For days. Other neighbor parents kept their kids away (mulch is messy and itchy and sticky). But, we ended up embracing it. The kids discovered wearing snowboots helped protect their feet from the pricks. They filled up buckets and buckets of mulch to "help".
Next time we do this, we'll have to invite some family for assistance and maybe find a couple of other wheelbarrows to borrow.
